The free Wi-Fi covers from the Clock Tower Plaza to the Memorial Hall, also including some of the smaller lanes covering East and West of the main centre and, The Guineas Shopping Centre. Here, visitors have free coverage and download speeds of up to 5Mbps per second, bringing an easy and connected experience whilst out in the town!
There are two ways in which you can connect to the Wi-Fi. The first option is to log in with your Facebook account, this means your mobile device will register how you normally connect to Wi-Fi through the Wi-Fi settings or by connecting and entering your contact details. To ensure you’re on the right hotspot, scan our WiFi QR Code placed on lamp posts and posters around the town centre.
To scan this code on iPhones simply go to ‘settings’ and click on ‘camera’. You’ll then see a ‘Scan QR codes’ option, make sure this is on. You’ll then be able to use your camera to scan this code where you’ll be taken through the process of connecting to the Wi-Fi. On android and other devices you may need to download a QR code scanning app – there are free options for each platform – if needed. This can be done by simply going to your App store and typing ‘QR code scanner’ into the search bar.
These QR codes will be placed on lamp posts and some shop windows around the town where you can gain access to the free Wi-Fi. Once you have scanned the QR code, your device will automatically connect to the Wi-Fi whenever you are in range so there’s no need to re-connect every time!
In return for using this free Wi-Fi, the Newmarket BID will gain permission to collect specific information. This includes data about the visitor, how often they visit, how long they stay and by using tracking data, understand how they moved about the town. This data helps to enhance visitors’ experience and promote Newmarket.
