The town is going to transform into cycle central on September 8th. Cycle teams from around the world compete in the closely contested Tour of Britain. Starting in Newmarket High Street, the Tour will wind it’s way through the Suffolk country side and end in Aldeburgh.
This year’s route is very different from previous editions of this country’s biggest professional cycle race taking a more easterly route that will certainly favour the sprinters, before crossing the country to finish for the very first time in Cardiff fittingly as Wales celebrates its Year of Legends. Come the 10 September we will be looking forward to writing the name of another legend into the OVO Energy Tour of Britain record books.
Undoubtedly the route will suit the sprinters, giving them the perfect preparation for the World Road Race Championships in Bergen at the end of September; however the individual time trial, over a classic British distance of 10 miles, introduces the possibility of an intriguing battle between the time trialists and the fast finishers.
We have once again put together a world-class list of teams and riders for the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, and I wish all of the riders and staff a warm welcome to the race and the best of luck, for what we know will be eight well-contested days of racing.
The big change for this year is a brand new, green, leader’s jersey, thanks to our new title partners OVO Energy, who have embraced both the men and women’s events in 2017.
