Afternoon Tea & Talk - George IV: Patronage and Reputation

Join Palace House on 28th January for Afternoon Tea and talk with Professor Steven Parissien. Dr Steven Parissien obtained both his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Oxford University. After working for the Georgian Group and English Heritage, in 1995 Steven was appointed Assistant Director of Yale University’s Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. In 2003 he became Dean of Arts and Professor of Architectural History at the University of Plymouth, and was subsequently Director of Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in Warwickshire, England, for ten years from 2009. In May 2019 he joined Palace House, Newmarket, as CEO.

This talk, which is designed to accompany both The Royal Collection’s major new London exhibition on George IV and the Palace House’s Newmarket exhibition George IV: Royalty, Racing and Reputation, examines George’s cultural and sporting patronage and how this fashioned his undeniably colourful reputation.
